If you have the original Led out....take a meter reading between where the Led was in the star...and the body of the flashlight. You will probably have to isolate the new SSC led. Arctic Alumina of Silver is best...I don't think you should use regular epoxy.
Another modder uses a top off a butter dish or similar slippery plastic to mix a spot of epoxy. Then rub the led into the spot until most of it squeases out. Let it sit for at least an hour...it should pop loose. Then trim the excess epoxy off, and if you have the thin film on the bottom...try reading a meter from the positive led to the bottom...don't scratch through the film..it will be rubbery, but easy to scratch off. THe negative lead is the one with the tiny split fork beside the larger foot- that you solder to.
You can also hold the led with the bottom on the negative end of a li-ion 3 or 3.7 volt battery. First solder a 3 inch wire to the positive side of the led. Now touch the led positive wire to the plus end of the battery while holding the led on top of the negative end with your other thumb. If it lights...start over...you still have electrical contact through the bottom.
If you haven't done anything yet...it might be easier to just put in a new star...if the old one removes easily.
