Does anybody have the wattage and lumen specs for a BA9S bulb (as would be used in, say the gauge cluster in a 1980 XS850)? Google has shown most places spec'ing about 3.3w but I've seen anywhere from 9lm to 35lm as the initial brightness

Alaric is right. BA9s is a base type. There are many different bulbs on the BA9s base. In order to find out the wattage and lumen specs for the bulb in your '80 XS850 (whatever that might be...), you'll have to figure out what the actual bulb number is. The most common BA9s-base bulb in Europe is the T4W, nominal 12v 4w 25Lm.
