batteries newbie question

not sure if this bridge has already been crossed, but pros and cons of
cr123s vs AA, and rechargeables.
I know 123s have a good shelf life, and AA might be cheaper and easier to get. not sure about the rechargeable sticks that are out there.

any recommendations for any good small led flashlights that take AA's?
(i don't know if that's a dirty word around here??)
