What are some of the basic rules for selecting which battery works with which flashlight/dropin? I keep seeing warnings about "make sure to check your voltages" but what exactly does that mean?
I have a basic understanding of general electronics, so I figured as long as I don't drop use a battery thats putting out more voltages than my flashlight could handle I'd be fine. But then I go to try and buy a flashlight (solarforce l2m kit, with extender for those who are curious), it came with by default an 18650 battery (marked as 3.7v) with a solarforce dropin marked 6v-18v.
Is the range only for maximum voltages (as in doesn't matter that the battery is putting out less)? would it be better to use 2 rcr123 instead? What if I take off the extender and just use 1 cr123, how would that change things?
Looked through the threads of interest and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. The battery compatibility chart looked promising but the link is dead.
