Mods: If this belongs in the other gadgets forum, I apologize...

I'm looking at replacing the battery pack in a cordless phone. I only ended up saving about $5 by ordering the batteries separately, but I feel like building something... I ordered a bunch of NiCd flat-top AA's with tabs. Is there any specific solder I should look for to join the batteries together?

The battery pack just uses 3 AA's joined together in series.

The best way to connect the tabs is to ultrasonically weld them, its one of the things I always make sure battery pack rebuilders have. That said, if the tabs are welded to the batteries and you are just connecting the tab ends, any electronic non acid core I think would be OK, maybe use some type of heat sink clip to keep from heating the battery too much.

If your phone is old enough to use a pack, you might want to consider upgrading to a modern Dect 6.0 phone. I messed with packs on our old cordless phones, vtech 2910 2 line phones, and I am just about to throw in the towel. Battery packs on ebay were about $6 shipped, but these phones were not made I think to last 10 or 20 years. I'm shopping for Panasonic, which seems like the best quality right now.
