Lemlux talked about 3AA holders that would fit in a D cell light. Can anyone tell me where I can find those holders.

Starlight:

I wish there were holders. I had to have battery packs made.

First, the batteries were glued together.

Second, copper strips were soldered across two batteries at each end to create the 3-cell series.

Third, the copper strips were covered with tape.

Fourth, the pack was shrink wrapped (except for the ends)

Fifth, the remaining opposite end positive and negative contacts each had a convex curved copper stip soldered to stretch across the center of the end for device contact.

Sixth, a nipple was soldered onto the center of the positive end copper strip.

At Walmart they have Dorcy 4AA lights that look like a short 2D light. Inside the light is 4AA battery holder that takes up the same amount of space as one D battery. The light is less than $4.00. You could convert the holder to 3AA with a dummy cell.

Older threads have established that the Diameter of a D cell is shorter than the diameter of 4 perfectly packed A cells. Others report that they have found some D cell flashlights that have enough ID tolerance slop that they will take 4 packs. I haven't been so lucky.

Thus, I've gone with 3-packs that have room to spare in any D-cell application and don't need a mounting superstructure to keep them properly aligned.
