Hi everyone, new to the forum and am enjoying all of the info out there. I just picked up a Surefire M6 and want to stock up on batteries. The best price I have found on the Surefire brand is $21/12, is that the best price you have seen? Any recommendations for places that put them on sale? Should be getting the light in a couple of days and can't wait to see how it works!

I know there are less expensive brands of batteries. but from what I have read here it may not be a good idea to use them in the M6, that's why I was just referring the Surfire brand. I think I have seen Duracells mentioned as being a good fit with this light also.

Before I go on, I should suggest this thread be moved to the Battery forum.

On to the batteries: "Made in USA" or Japan generally have good reliability, so rest assured you can use cells other than SureFire. However, avoid CR123 cells that are "Made in China". They have a strong tendency of going :poof:, and many here on CPF have reported exploding/venting from these cells.

Using a DMM to check for consistent voltage in batteries isn't a bad idea, either. I realize you're new to CPF, so that last idea may be a bit much for now.:grin2: Anyways, feel free to use other brand cells and don't feel bad about using them.:)

I can understand why you would want to use Surefire cells in your light but any of the US made cells will work just fine. I and many others here in CPF have used Battery Station CR123's without any problems. There has also been some discussion that the Surefire, Duracells and Battery Station cells come from the same factory. Here's a link to the CPF pricing on the BS cells. Killer prices on CR123 batteries.

Also try Battery Junction. They also have great prices. I believe the Titanium cells are Chinese made (unless they have recently switched suppliers) but they seem to be well regarded. And at $1/cell it's quite a bargain.

Based on my experience with Titanium 123 cells, I would not use them even if they were free. Just my opinion, YMMV

Based on a fairly small sampling so far, the "made in USA" Battery Station cells are OK and a bargain. Streamlight, Panasonic, Duracell, Energizer, and SureFire are all good cells too
