I have a 4sevens Preon 0 and I just pulled the standard Duracell AAA battery out and on the bottom half of the battery towards the negative end there is a film of grease on the lower sides of the battery. It's almost like someone put a small drop of grease or petroleum jelly on their finger and smeared a small amount around the lower sides of the battery. The grease is colorless.

Upon close inspection the battery seems to be in good exterior shape (save for the greasiness). I am assuming that there is probably some greasiness in the bottom of my flashlight body as well now. Can anyone tell me what this might be and if it is a problem what might be the culprit and what should I do with my flashlight body to clean it and get it back to good working order (assuming this is even an issue)?

Edit: my flashlight had been working normally, I just decided to take the battery out for the heck of it and discovered this issue.

Hello VeloWeave,

Welcome to CPF.

The first thing that comes to mind is that something may have been applied to prevent corrosion. If the light has been working well, keep using it.

dunno but wonder if the end cap threads/o-ring had excessive lube that got in there.

Don't really know for sure, could have been some excess lube, could have been the battery. I am using a new battery after cleaning out the body and no issues. 4Sevens told me to stop using the battery and clean out the tube. We'll see if there are any other issues I'll update this post. But after a few days it's fine.
