There have been hundreds of those "breakthroughs" reported in last 5 years, yet 0 of them have made it into customer products.

From the article it sounds more like a way to create a better charging system for a given battery chemistry/design to reduce charge times and increase battery life cycles. A good thing, but it sounds like it's more about improving the charger than the batteries themselves. I suppose if it lets them stuff more charge into current cells without sacrificing durability, or use higher capacity chemistries that were too dangerous/difficult to charge with traditional methods it may as well be the same as improving the batteries.
