I purchased the charger from Thomas Distributing in 2009 and has been a great charger with no problems. A few months ago while handling the adapter, it slipped from my hand and hit the floor from a height of about 1 foot. The charger unit did not fall. Now the adapter does not power up the charger. I have been using another adapter with selectable voltage and is set at 3 volts. The charger powers up with this adapter and batteries will charge. I know, the back says "use provided ac/dc adapter only". The charger is never left unattended. No sounds of loose or rattling parts inside the adapter. No attempt will be made to open the adapter.

So, what could have happened inside the adapter ?

parts can break without falling off or even the circuit board can crack or a wire break off. My first guess would be the inductor broke on the dc/dc buck circuit (I am guessing it has one). Take it apart and see what happened as I don't think they have a 3 year warranty on them.
