Decided to go out last night and take some shots of my lighting setup.. just thought that I would share them..

Set up is 1x Lupine Wilma 8 (4x LED) and 1x Eclipse MR16 (1x HID)

The far reflective object is approx 165ft away.

Camera was set to 400asa and 4secs at f4 on a normal/telephoto angle setting but the last image is using a wider angle so as to include the bike as well..

This is on low beam setting. The trees by the fence are about 200ft away from the bike

This is the 2nd beam setting

This is the 3rd beam setting.. handle bars slipped over towards the right

This is on full beam

Now you can understand why I love riding at night.. on full beam setting, the batteries should last just over 4hrs.. thats a lot of fun..

I actually went back to the same spot this morning and measured those distances, not by footsteps as I did the night before but by GPS and actually that reflective jacket at the end of the picture was not 165ft away but 250ft and the trees in the background by the fence was actually 275ft away.. me is impressed.. and pleased..

Although some think its an OTT setup, I go to some daft places at night, ride downhill at some daft speeds and its only possible to do it "safely" if you can see.. One of my fav spots, has a 800mts downhill sweet spot that has a gradient of about 20% at its peak - you can easily hit 40+ mph (even free wheeling will see you hit 30mph).. in daylight its mad, but at night its totally mental... the buzz is unbelieveable and it never fails to put a smile on my face..

what kind and quantity of cells do you use?

Not sure of the brand name but I think that they were Samsung 18650 with a 2600mAh output.. I know that they are not cheap even with discount.

For the HID which is 11.1v I am using 12x Li ion (18650) cells wired to show 12v and give 10.4Ah. approx 4 hrs burn time at full power. This is 4sets of 3 cells in series to equal 12v each, then these are in parallel with each other to keep the 12v rating but give a 10.4 Ah rating. Battery ususal reads 12.78 after a full charge.

For the LED which is 7.4v I am using 8x Li-ion (18650) cells wired to show 8v and give 10.4Ah

I have 2 sets of backup for the LED, each using 2x Li-ion (18650) cells wired to show 7.4v and give 2.6 Ah, each is approx 1hrs burn time at full power. This is 1 set of 2 cells which when charged reads 8.4v.
