I use a belt I bought at a gun store by Ross Leather, the M97 in brown. A little thick for some belt clips, but heavy duty enough to hold a LOT of weight.

am i reading their comparison chart correctly? the 1-1/2" belt 5 stitch has a greater load bearing capabilitiy than the 1-3/4" belt? i wear a belt similar to this (not as nice or load bearing) purchased from sunny surplus and i have a problem with the belt slipping in the buckle. with the additional velcro of the wilderness that problem should be eliminated no? i may have to order one of these to try. o and to those who own this belt, did you follow their sizing procedure you did you guesstamate? they talk about recycling your buckle if you gain or lose a significant amount of weight the belt should still work you would just lose the use of the velcro right? any info is appreciated thanks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

rackness,saw the testing page as well. It was a bit strange that the 5 stitch 1-1/2" should have greater breaking strength than a 5 stitch 1-3/4" belt. However from the looks of it, I'd say that they've only tested one sample of each belt (what with no decimals and just a single fracture location), which in turn can give odd ball results. Individual belts can probably vary quite a bit. In general however the wider one is probably stronger just because there's more material.
The velcro strip is not suppose to be load bearing so it probably does not help all that much, but a bit. The sliding bar in the buckle does its job and my belt never once slipped. Consider it's suppose to be a safety belt of a sort, the buckle MUST work pretty well.
I just guessed the length of the belt from the size of my pants, mine's a bit long though. Although the instruction sounds sensible enough.
The belt would work despite weight changes, only to a point though. The velcro strip is quite stiff so if you loose too much weight, you will not be able to feed the belt through the buckle completely. And of course if you gain too much weight you will run of belt /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Although not every day (because that would look silly here at the office), I wear this belt on the weekends.

When you buy it new, it is very very stiff. It is only about now that it is getting worn in a bit to be better to handle and deal with. But it is a very strong and rugged belt. Basic black color goes with most outfits, too.

The belt won't slip. You should follow their sizing instructions, which give you some slack in case you gain or lose weight.
Very strong, stiff belt. The only downside I've found is that it is heavy.

I just got the last resort or save your *** belt from CountyComm, on lightemup's recommendation:

It's nice, very solid and tough, with a heavy metal buckle (haven't tried rappelling with it yet, but I like my underwear). Comes in two colors and three sizes, but they are out of stock on several of them.

thanks for the info shanghaied. i think i am going to order the 1-1/2" 5 stitch belt since i have read a few reviews stating that the 1-3/4" belt is too large for many types of jeans. i don't wear bdus which it seems that the belt is designed for but the 1-1/2" belt seems like it would fit. to all who own this belt or have experience with it which size did you choose and have you had any problems with fit etc? any thoughts are appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanks.gif

i wear a GK nylon duty belt at work and on my days off it is a "save your arse" type belt that a mate of mine made for me - double layer of seatbelt and spectra stitching. i have done a few very short rappels on it (5metres)

I chose a 38 belt even though none of my pants are 38 (mostly 36, but also 34), so I've got only less than a inch of adjustment left in the belt and it's definitely a bit too large for me, but it works nonetheless.
I want to second what josey said, the belt is quite heavy. Not that you'll notice when you are wearing them. A tip though, if you are sharing a room with some one, and your roommate's asleep, please hold onto your pants after you've undone the belt and the fly, 'cause otherwise your pants will drop down to the floor (they're weighted after all!) with a loud BANG, a good dent on the wodden floor, and groaning roommate. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Mine's from Independent Truck (makers of skateboard trucks). Seems like decently thick leather and the buckle sports a phillips screwdriver & hex key. The keeper has a 1/2" socket and 3/8" & 9/16" wrenches. A Google search for "skate tool belt" will turn up some pics.
686 Enterprises makes (used to make? can't find it on their web site now) a similar belt, but replaces the hex key with a flat screwdriver tip, adds a bottle opener (on some belts), and provides 8, 10, and 11mm sockets/wrenches.
Unfortunately, it was pretty hard to find a shop that had a plain black one in stock - most had spikes or studs. Not my style /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif - even with the plain one, my wife just shook her head and muttered something with the word "geek" in it.
