Benchmade dissapointment

well I bought a benchmade apparition about two weeks ago and I liked it.
Although I noticed that the blade was not as sharp toward the tip as it was nearer the base which i thought strange because of the QC I am used to from BM. then tonight I looked between the liners and was appauled. The bade itself is resting on the assist spring in the handle and creating a dull spot about 1/2-3/4" long. WTF!! I gotta say I am pissed. I expect that crap from walmart not Benchmade. Well, we'll see how they handle it. If it goes well, I will stay a follower, if not I am spyderco bound (already a fan of them anyway) I'll stop now, I could rant about this for some time.

Not really a big Benchmade fan myself, but everyone makes mistakes

Hopefully they can fix it to your satisfaction.

I also have an Apparition and love it. However, I did have a problem when I purchased it with the assist spring being off center where the tip contacts the blade near the pivot axis. In fact, it was rubbing on the liner.

So I called Benchmade and sent the knife in - they took care of it without any hassle at all and it came back in perfect shape. Now it did take some time to get fixed (made a few weeks or so) and like you point out the expectation is that these are done right the first time.

Good Luck,
Tim

I have a lot of Benchmades and know things happen. Their customer service is tops. If you do send the knife in make sure you retain the original box and just send the knife in a small shipping box. Their main number is: 800-800-7427 for any warranty questions and inquiries.

Good luck...BTW I like the 670/672 models, but always remove the torsion bar, I think they work much better as a manual knife...Benchmade's newer Nitrous assist knives work better and are smoother to use.

yeah I hear ya, but if I wanted a non assist knife, I wouldnt have bought one. there would have been like ten other models I would have chosen instead. Oh well, sent it out today, we'll see what they send back. worst comes to worst I will remove the spring bar. but I dont want to, I carried it for a week and came to like it.
