Is there any benefit to turn cells every so often while charging. I can't help but to give them a turn or rotate them a few degrees each time I walk by the charger. I use NiMH now but want to jump onto the LI-Ion bandwagon soon.

Hello Glock27,

There is a benefit from giving the cells a turn when you insert them into the charger to charge, but once the charging has begun, there is no further benefit. Turning cleans the contacts a little and gives you a better connection.

Another benefit is that it exposes any chip weevils that migrated out of the protection circuits.
I can guarantee you, if theres no insulator or heater element on board your going to need extraordinary alkalines to give you any power at all. At -10~0C electron tadpoles are literally stuck on their highways. Heck, some say this sort of temperature actually impedes chip weevils
