Best Flashlight for Throw?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Hmm, well, the best flashlight for throw would:

o Have HAIII anodization or better, so it won't be scratched
o Have a bit of texture, so it doesn't slide out of your hands
o Be not too heavy, nor too light (a 6D Mag would be out, as would a Photon Freedom)
o Be brightly colored, so you can find it again
o Have an aerodynamic shape. Fins would be nice

While I appreciate your responses, perhaps I should note that I am not a modder and know absolutely nothing about electronics. I was looking for an off-the-shelf production light with extreme throw and under a C-note in price.

I am not capable of taking a stainless steel tiki torch body, aspheric lense and somehow making a flashlight out of it.

Thanks.

I work in the widest building on Manhattan Island. (The building is literally as wide as a football field is long). I use a 2-C Maglite with a MagLED bulb in it..... No, the beam won't reach one end to the other. But if you narrow the beam, the light will reach nearly half that distance.

You'd likely get better results with a 3-D Mag w/ MagLED in place.

One aspheric option that doesn't require any modding is to get a Lumapower M1 (D-Mini should also work, head diameter is the same) and use this lens with it. Even without the Lens, the M1 is an awesome general-purpose light with great throw. With the lens, it's quite good here is a link to a thread with some beamshots.

I'm not sure if there are cheaper hosts out there that will support this lens, I used the M1 because I had it already, but if I find one, I'll be sure to mention it.

others have been sold in the past.

I got 2 asperical 1.5 C Mags from Ledean & Mac, and they are really spectacular for their square hotspot throw with no spill. It's not the best throwing light I have, but if you require no spill....it's the way to go for the price.
