I'm moving to north dakota to drive a water truck. Most of the well sights are pitch black and cold.Light will be on a hardhat so weight is not much of an a issue.Would like a light that easy to use with gloves on. Will work nights so run time is important.

I don't know how well the Petzl NAO will work for you, but it is interesting in that it has a light sensor and adjusts itself similarly to an auto-focus, auto flash camera. It might be worth a look. It's a little pricey, for me, for something I would use very infrequently, but if I used it daily, the cost would not be outrageous.

Welcome to the Forum! :welcome:

There are many mice headlamps made by Zebralight, Spark and XTAR as well as a few others.

The Fenix HP25 is a good hard hat light once you put some tape on the head bands. The battery pack is at the back and is a little bit heavy but on a hard hat, it is not an issue. It has good run time and both spot and flood lights. Depending on your gloves though the buttons may not be so easy to push.

Will a normal headlamp strap fit even around a hard hat? I would consider a traditional flashlight used with a Twofish Lockblock bicycle mount.... that would give you so many more options to fine tune your light. I use one on my bicycle helmet but you might need (or need to make) vents for the Lockblock strap to wrap around.

I have a Petzl with the rechargeable battery pack, I think there is a kit so it can attach to a helmet also.

Some duct tape may need to come into play.

Yep, looping the duct tape or other sticky tape around the band with the sticky side on the outside of the loop is a nice cheap easy method. The other way is to buy some clips. The Petzl helmet clips will do the job but the tape is probably the easiest.

what kind of batteries are You used to?
... or want to use?
... will it be rechargeables?
... what kind of these?

--> the best headlamp at all is the Zebralight H600w --> when one knows to use Li-Ion 18650 cells, and them ONLY.

--> if the possibility to use AA cells (more other gadgets can use the same; "known" battery format and chargers; ready made single-use cells purchasable everywhere ...) is "needed", then one of the AA-cell lights
(Fenix headlamp)

what happened to Princeton Tec?
Apex and Eos once have been the best headlamps ...
