Best light/battery for HOT car

Does anyone know if one battery type/flashlight stores better in a HOT car all day, every day? Living in So Cal, after a day at work my flashlight(s) (no matter where they are stored in the car) is hot, and has endured temps in excess of 120 degrees all day in the locked-up car. It seems to negatively effect both battery life (overall) and charges. Is a rechargeable better to store in heat than li-ion? Any advice appreciated.

Any lithium should do...RC's will naturally die slowly, or with-out notice, so primary CR123's are recommened, if it's a "stand-by"/"emrgencies only" light. If you go with primaries, make sure you get a quality cell (duracell/energizer/surefire). Your cheapest bet for a quality CR123 would be surefire cells, available at Lowes for approx. $4.99 for 2. The light doesn't really matter, as long as it's quality...I'm sure others will chime in, but anyways,

In that thread mattchase mentions "I did check the batteries a few times during the day and they felt very hot, not so hot that I couldn't hold them but hot enough that I didn't really want to hold them." That probably means they're approaching 50°C, so still just inside operational spec.

I suggest you get something a bit smaller and then keep it in your pocket -- 98* F is a lot easier on the equipment than 160* F.

I have a older Streamlight 2L3W flashlight with 2 cr123 batteries in my glove box. It's been there 4 years and it works everytime I need it. I live in Southern California.
