A MadMax/BadBoy are 1 watt luxeons.
A KL1/KL3 are 1 watt luxeons.
They have similar output. The difference is in the batteries and which light you prefer. Do you want to run CR123 or AA? With AA you can use standard Ni-MH rechargeable batteries or cheap & readily available AA alkaline batteries. If you want to use a 1 cell light then of the Surefires I would recommend a E1E/KL1. If you want to use AAs then take your pick of the sandwiches, I prefer the MadMax Plus Q3. The BadBoys are very nice also, even the standard one for $35.
Here are the ones I have in the order I prefer them.
Surefire E1E/KL1, nice EDC & pocket clip works on ball cap
MadMax+Q3, Ni-MH this gets used quite a lot
BadBoy 400 Q3, Ni-MH
BadBoy 500, given to my son-in-law, he loves it.
BadBoy 400
MadMax+ cyan
Surefire E2E/KL1, never use it I prefer the MN03
Surefire C2/KL3,I never use it, it's to large
