Best "smaller" one light does everything

+1 but you might want to consider the Fenix TA30, it runs on 3xCR123, but can take 2x17500, 2x14500, 2xAA Alkalne (diminished output but can still change levels), 2xAA NiMH (diminished output, no level changing).

It's not the smallest of lights by any means but its one of the toughest i own, it was sent to me for testing and i abused it as much as i could and it still works fine.

low is decently low and max 225 lumens is really bright, it's a very good thrower .

You can see real life beamshots of the TA30 HERE, on the lower right, click on "Road Dry" then look for the TA30 in the list of lights.

I have heard good things about the TA30's durability and I love the selector ring and battery options ... it is on my short list... just wish it had all those features with a SST 50 for some more oomph!

Those are limiting in their battery options (IMHO).....

If money is no option, buy 2 lights... a Surefire E2DL Defender for it's awesome runtime on low and it's outstanding output on high and an HDS/Ra Clicky 170 for its perfect utility, ruggedness and multiple configureation options.

The same diffuser works for both lights to make them floodier... the Surefire F04.

I'm thinking a Dereelight CL1H w/ XP-G R5 and back it up with a Dereelight Javelin that runs on AAs. The SST50 is nice but for more efficient output the XP-G may be better. If you insist on a sst50 get a small XP-G AA Quark or similar as a backup

It must be all the camera crews in those places :) In Aceh Indonesia KFC and camera stores were the only thing open.

It's about space/weight and having just 1 of the best of everything you need.
For some people 1 is none ... others have a better shot at getting a duck with a single shot vs a semi0-auto. Something about knowing you have a back up makes you really screw up! I've never lost or misplaced a light when I've only had 1 but I have misplaced all 3 when I had 3. I may be a bit extreme that way I know!

Consider the Dereelight C2H. It has the new XPG led. It has 3 levels. It uses cr123 batteries, and with a $6 adaptor uses AA or AA li ion batteries. 200 lumens rating.
