Okay this is very much tongue in cheek - but I'm at my Sister's house and my brother in law has a 4D mag on the counter with the bottom off and the batteries out of it.

The garbage can (from Costco) that opens when you wave your hand above it takes 4D cells, so the mag serves as storage for them. Tickeled me....

A 4D cell garbage can?? Wow.

Yeah that is one use for it, battery storage. I still prefer a plastic box for that though...

Battery storage is one of the worst uses I've heard of for a Maglite. I've had quite a few ruined after sitting for as little as 6-12 months with the same batteries in them when the batteries leaked. The do make great hammers though. I used to keep a 3-D cell Maglite in the car, and would use it to pound tent stakes into hard ground when camping.

I have to agree. I recently saved my 2D silver M@glite by checking the batteries inside. They had just started to leak. Luckily, I was in time before it got really bad. I have far better lights. But why lose a decent one to leaking batteries.
