I'm gonna get into night bike riding if I can pull this off…
I'm trying to mount my G2 onto my bike via picatinny rails, but I'm not sure if this is a "good" idea, where to get the rails and scope mounts etc.

thanks for the help!

That should work. The best place would be a gun show, where you can pick up random, usually beat up parts for next to nothing.

How cheap are we talking? I don't think my dad'll let me buy anything that's above the cost of the light, so limited to around 30 bucks, was thinking more around 20, but that would be ok too. What else can I use the Picatinny for? How could I mount it on the bike? Possibly use the holes for the water bottle holder, not sure how that would work though…
Thanks and have a good one,

very cool. I kinda reallllly like the idea of the picatinny rails, though. Maybe I really just want to paintball at night or something
Anyways, was looking around and found swivel mounts for 1" scopes for the rails, not sure how I'd drill it etc, but I think I could make it do. Any other ideas? I was looking at the zytel versions, they do seem kind of cheap though...any idea about where on the west coast (preferably OR or WA) that I could get this type of stuff? anyone know if paintballers use picatinnys? There is a paintball store across from Camo & Gear, but other than that I can't remember/find anything.
Thanks for the help,

Twofish lockblocks...

Avoid the fancy-looking-but-crappy-performing plastic flashlight holder sold for pennies at some on-line stores.

You want to mount it to the handlebars or your helmet. Mounting to the frame will only be good when riding in a straight line.

I started out using rubber bands

That's what my wife uses and it works perfectly.

I think velcro strips are an even better idea, more durable. There's a picture in the link posted above that shows them in use with a bike mount, but I saw a another thread recently where they were used all by themselves. (Sorry, can't remember who did it. Great idea though.)

You can find them in Walmart, or any craft store, by the sewing accessories for just a few bucks.

what do you guys think of the Surefire helmet light? I think that the helmet, rather than the bars would be a better choice.

The best and easiest bike mount is and always will be 2 hoseclamps. In a figure 8 type setup.I use silicon tube ( hose) I have under the clamp on the bar and also touching the light to not scratch.Total cost $1 or less for clamps and 1-2 bucks for the rubber or silicon hose.
Mine holds a PL 24 on my moutain bike NP at all and its shockproof ( semi) from the silicon.Never moved or wobbled ever.Same for the Magcharger I used B4 the PL 24.

SF's helmet light only attaches to military equipment. Plus, it uses 5mm LED's - not bright enough for any sort of "real world" bike riding. What I see people doing is matching a bright flood light (on the handlebar) with a tighter beam (for throw) on the helmet.

How could I attach my G2 to my helmet? keep in mind I don't want to compromise the main reason that I have to helmet, to protect myself.
thanks a ton,

btw, what would be a good flood and what would be a good throw light?

Going into night bike riding now that the snow is gone. Been looking for a good bike night lights plus holder. Found this thread useful.
