Hi,

last days i spend some time with lenses and a solarforce L2M 18350er host. first i used the ahorton lens. the results where good 50klux, but not perfect. after ordering some high quality lenses from a local dealer i played with these. now i use a planoconvex lens as precolli and a condesor lens as mainlens. the spot is now much bigger and give me 65.000 lux as result.
the complete setup:

- solarforce L2M 18350 short host
- cree xp-e² dedomed and soldered on a sinkpad
- stock driver that pull out 1.5 amps to the led
- aw imr 18500 - 1100ma/h
- 13mm planconvex precollamination lens
- 27mm condensor lens

now the interesting part, the pictures:

That's a very cool build. How did you fit the 18500 battery in that host?

I hope to see some of these for sale when I have money :)

I take it that the waiven collar doesn't fit in this host. It's 24mm and the allowable ID of the pill is about 20mm with only 1mm of wall thickness if one were to build a slug. I'd love to see this thing go 2.2a into the LED.

Hi,

@rayan
i modified the host a little bit so the 18500 fits. shorten the springs a little bit...
maybe i make a small batch of them when there are enough interested flashies here.

before i played with the lenses i made some mirror collars by myself out of stainless steel. the results where not so good as exected. only 29-32% higher surface brightness. heres a picture that shows a 20mm collar and a bigger one with 40mm diameter:

i think the refecltion of stainless steel is not good enough.

I agree. I love the idea of a shorty host for a thrower. I don't mind the diameter I just want short!

I do believe aluminum is the coating of choice for economical but decent performing reflectors.

What did you use to form the spherical surface?

Also, any data on the FL of the lens you used? Just so's I can draw it out in my head. I don't quite understand the selection of precollimator, although I understand what it is meant to do.

Details of the lenses follow.

If i will use a 18350 imr it will be some mm shorter then this version.

Hi,

first lens sit direct above the led Die is the planconvex lens with 13mm diameter and f=28mm. the second lens is a condensor lens with 27mm diameter, but f is not known. i can messure it, but its the same like the ahorton lens and should be arround 10-11mm.

Thanks, Markus! Will ponder this sometime later. Not a fast thinker, so I gotta set some time aside ;-)
