The other day I did a lux measurement on a StarLux, which I put in a 1W lambertian. It also has a resistor in it. With batteries that are somewhat used, I measured 1,600 lux. If I had used fresh batteries, it would have been much brighter.


Not all the Blaster II I shipped out are 1,700 lux. A few had higher lux readings, a few had less. A save range to claim would be 1,100 lux or higher.

I have measured extremely high lux readings from the lambertian 1W combined with the 30mm. I'll let others do some measurements and post results.

As I've said somewhere, I'm not trying to produce the brightest possible 1W Luxeon Star flashlight, or 5W flashlight. If I were, I would not be putting in resistance. You can take out the resistance, but I will not warranty the Blaster if you modify it, so it's your nickel if you burn up a Luxeon Star.

My bad Wayne, I should been more clear with my post:

I have 3 Blaster IIs. They are as follows:

Blaster II # 1: 1,400 Lux, 100% Pure White
Blaster II # 2: 1,200 Lux, a tiny hit of green
Blaster II # 3: 1,700 Lux, some green

The 1,700 Lux I believe is on the extremely bright side of the spectrum. As ways, Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Sorry for any confusion.

Here is a pic of the Blaster II tailcap, which has several improvements:

1) No anodizing on the threads. Allows better electrical ground, even if the tailcap is loose.

2) The spring is stronger, which combined with a smaller flashlight I.D. illiminates battery rattle, a problem in the first production run of Blasters II's.

3) Deeper grooves aid in tailcap removal.

In the top photo, you can really pick out the grooviness of the flashlight body.

Just out of curiosity, I thought you said the revised tailcaps would have vertical grooves? I'm not complaining, I like the looks of the horizontal deeper grooves, but I thought I remembered you saying they were going to be vertical.

Yes, they were going to be vertical lines. But the tailcaps would have had to be manufactured in a different manner, which would have added a lot of cost. So I opted for the deeper grooves. Groovy, huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Simply awesome stuff...the machining is perfect, Ive never had a light this well made...not even my old trusty Mag was this well machined.

Brightness is great from what I can tell so far, cant wait till it gets dark out so I can really check it out, color is great, by far the whitest flashlight I have ever owned, Its my first luxeon, so I cant really compare it to much...its much whiter than my freinds Inova X5T white, which has a rather bluish tint to it, and way whiter than my standard mag with its yellow tint.

Blaster II Shots up now

It finally got dark and I took a couple shots of my Blaster II in action /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here ya go.

Pic #1 - lightsaber view, light sitting on floor pointed up at my 10' ceiling.

Pic #2 - pointed at the wall about 8' away.

Pic #3 - Pointed out at the street in front of my house approx. 50' away, lighting up my car and another across the street from it (pic doesnt do it justice, it looks much brighter in person)

Overall, the beam has a square image of the LED die up close, but its not noticable once you get out past about 20' or so, beam color is excellent, throw is pretty good, I'll do some side-by-sides with my Mag 3D when I get some more batteries /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
