I'm making a Luxeon light out of one of those solar yard lights. It's going to have several different modes, bright, really bright, and OH MY GOD ALIENS ARE LANDING. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I would also like to add a blink mode. Is there a way that I can do this without any kind of circuit board? (unless there is something premade that I can buy)

hi zmoz, 3905 or 555 IC timer might do the trick depending on the current draw, easy to set up timing cycles using a resistor and a cap

may connect led on the input or output of IC, depending on the current draw and input voltage. you can use a fet, relay or transistor off the IC if the current level exceeds the IC's current rating. if you can find a 4 layer pin diode that might work also...delay windshield wiper circuit also comes to mind .....get hold of a copy of SAMS "IC timer cookbook" by walter jung, has lots of circuit concepts for blinking stuff!

later, rob
