Hi everyone, i'm new to CPF and i want to ask a question. Can anyone tell me where i can purchase a blue LED flashlight exactly like the ones shown on CSI:Crime Scene Investigation?

I have many flashlights and headlights and would really love to add one of those to my collection!

BTW i'm in the UK :grin2:

Thanks in advance!

The ones usually shown on CSI are UV, not blue. That's because UV florescences with many substances and makes them glow. Well, they are UV in real life anyhow, they might cut corners and be safer and using blue just for TV.

Blue light is commonly used for Crime Scene Search. When used with the appropriate goggles (typically orange), it us used to search for fibers, hairs, blood and other traces. Blue light is used widely in Forensic labs as UV light has the potential to damage DNA evidence with overexposure.

If you want a true Forensic flashlight, they tend to be on the pricey side as it needs to be between 450 and 470 nm, depending on what you looking for. Like flashlights, all Forensic lights are not created the same and they vary widely in price based on light output.

We have two blue flashlights with very different price points:

Since you are in the UK, I'd recommend CSI Equipment (http://csiequipment.com/products.aspx?categoryID=12)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help guys, but the flashlight i saw was tiny. Smaller than my Princeton Tec Rage and gave off a beautiful blue light.

Thanks for that, but it's still bigger than the one i saw. I have an Inova X5 blue LED, but the beam profile is not very good, as it has dark rings and dark spots. The beam that i want is similar to my Night-Ops Gladius, but in blue. I wish i knew which flashlight it was that i saw used in CSI, which gave that brilliant blue beam with no dark rings or spots!
