Hey there guys,

First up this is my first time, and If I have done anything wrong with this thread or it's location I do apologise.

On topic:

I really really like the boker brand, In fact I love it and living in the UK (lovely knife restrictions -_-) I carry a boker XS for everyday use, now in these long dark winter months i have found myself wanting a small pocket torch that is of decent enough quality. So of course I had to notice that boker plus has a couple of lights.

However I can't seem to find many reviews for them and TBH with you I am not sure how bright lumens actually are :S

So I was hoping one of you guys might have some experience with these boker flashlights and be able to let me know how you feel about them.

If it helps at all im looking at acquiring either the FA-1 or the FC-2.

Most important: what is 350 lumens rated to? will that be okay for walking outdoors in the night? and same question for 105 lumens.

Thanks a bunch guys :]

EDIT: I live in a rural area, very few steetlights.

tough to tell the website doesn't give a whole lot of info. boker makes some good knives ive owned a few over the years. these are probably outsourced from another company and unless you know what company it could be risky. i think your better off buying from a flashlight company ie fenix/jetbeam/7777 etc . as for lumens 100 is more than enough especialy since you have little light pollution where you live. the bigger issue is a 300-400 light will "usually" run longer on a 80-100 lumen medium that a light thats on max at 100 lumens. check out the shiningbeam i-mini and the xeno eo3 both are in the same budget and will accept AA and 14500's. shiningbeam sell a package with the i-mini and cmini tube so you can run aa/14500/cr123/16340 in them.

The company you have linked to(which is not allowed by the way so expect a telling off) is one of the most respected companies in the UK to deal with,so no worries there.I would go with a Boker and in fact after seeing the price I am going to add one to my collection.350 lumens is more than enough for walking at night.I live in a very rural area with no street lighting and although i have 300+lights i mainly use a 100 lumen when out in the barn.

You are covered by a full warranty so my advice go ahead,at the price a good deal. There are also loads of others you could go with but your question was specific to the brand.

Boker products are made in Germany (great company and great products, IMO).
Boker Plus products are made by manufacturers in China/Taiwan, thus are the company's more affordable line.
Quality control is good but not to the German produced standard of their main lines.

However, a lot of good manufacturers produce OEM products for other companies (especially in China/Asia).
Chances are these lights are manufactured by companies that are well known here on CPF.
(Design cues would seem to suggest that, at least to my eyes)

Lumens are a cool number, but you have to consider how those lumens are utilized.
My main EDC light is a AA/14500 that puts out 510 lumens.
My secondary EDC light is a 18650 thrower that puts out 560 lumens.
One is super floody, great for upclose tasks and the other can easily allow me to identify targets 100m+ down range.
It all depends on your needs.

Looking through specs for these lights it appears they're all Cree XP-G R5s which would suggest they're going to be decent throwers but if you look at the reflectors it looks like you'll get a nice wide spill as well.

When you do get them in, please share your thoughts with us. :)

As far as Boker is concerned . . . Their knives? Yes. Their lights? No. Re-branded overseas junk.

They have a warranty so I will give them ago, a company who values there brand name are very unlikely to re brand junk. I have branded and none branded in my collection and both give me light out of the end of a tube.

Ironically, I've found the opposite to be true. Remember Night-Ops and their Gladius model? About 5 years ahead of its time. After the Gladius, Night-Ops simply got some very inexpensive overseas lights, slapped on the Night-Ops name on them, then jacked-up the price. It was disappointing seeing Night-Ops go so far backwards after their Gladius model had hit the scene. Granted, there were a couple of issues with it. But none that couldn't have been fixed by the company. Instead, they went another route. Unfortunately, the Gladius turned out to be a dead end in the flashlight evolutionary tree.

I´m from germany and I couldn´t tell anything about these. There´s no talking about these on german forums, at least not that I´m aware of. There might by a thread here and there that slipped me. But nonetheless, if these sold in the flashoholic realm there would be some reviews, praise or damnation ;)

Anyway, I see it as Monocrom does. Very likely OEM lights with a Böker+ logo slapped onto. Doesn´t necessary mean crappy lights but it´s more likely than not.

Eric

I've found Boker had great customer service regardless which line (Boker/Boker Plus) was concerned.

Quality Control for knives made in OEM facilities in China (rumoured to be the same that supplied Spyderco) was good but not perfect.
Sending back a knife with a small gap was no problem. Again, this is in regards to how they handle their knives but I hope this translates to a good experience for you with their flashlights.

Allow me to knock some dust off this thread....

It was kinda disappointing searching for and finding this thread to learn my Boker flashlight Ive had for about 11 years is not the German made light I thought it was.

I worked at a True Value hardware store in high school and this True Value also had a killer hunting/fishing/knife/gun section, almost half the store and I wanted to use my employee discount to by myself a gadget.

I was gonna buy, at that time, the lowest priced, aluminum bodied Surefire light they sold because I had heard so many good things about their brightness. The main guy who co-owned the store sold me on the Boker. Heres how....
He said:
Same size as the SF.
Same batteries as the SF(123A)
Same bulb as the SF(P60)
Aluminum bodied, like the SF.
Has a belt clip standard, which was available for the SF, for an additional 10-15bucks on top of the 80 dollar price tag.
Get all that for $40.

Its been a good light over the years. When I first got it I used it a lot. I was young and my friends and I were gear heads and night owls. So we were always messin' with trucks, mudding, or welding/building things at night. It came in quite handy, At that time, LEDs were no where near as prominent as they are today and for its size, it was insanely bright. But I hated the batteries would run up quickly.

Then the bulb broke. Literally shattered. Must have dropped it or bumped into something hard. Got a genuine SF replacement. Went through a few for the first 2 years cause they would either break or just quit working. Plus, the heat from the lamp warped and cracked the lens.

So then I got this fancy-shmancy red lens flip-cap for it. Works well, dual purpose; keep dirt out when not in use and use two light modes.

After getting tired of spending money on batteries and finding my D3 Maglite more reliable I put it back in the box and put it away.
I "lost" it for a few years and recently found it again. Surprisingly, the batteries I put it away with still worked so Ive been using it as my EDC again for a few weeks. Already gone through one setof batteries. I dont want to go down this path again.

Can anyone recommend a new LED bulb to put in it to conserve power.

Whats the stock output of a P60 incan? 60Lumens?

Itd be nice to have something higher than that but Im more interested in linger bulb and especially battery life. Whats the brightest output with longest battery life?

Also, what do yall recommend for a lens replacement? I was thinking just by a small sheet of lexan/clear plastic and cut a disk to size, press it in and seal with Lexel.

I would recommend you look at the Malkoff M61L or M61LL depending on how long you want your battery to last, also you could run a 16650 if you want rechargeable.
I like the M61NL , and have that in a couple lights. You can read about them on the Malkoff web page.

Yes I think the stock p60 was 60 lumens.

Does your bezel come apart so you can remove the old lens? if so and it is the same size as a standard SF 6P lens, it should be easy to find a replacement.
If not, do you know if it fits a standard SF p6 bezel? If so there are piles of options there, but if you wan to keep the original bezel, you might have to get a little more creative.
