So I just bought a new Quark mini 123 neutral for my work truck. Funny thing is I just sold one a month or so ago. Not a neutral version though. Personally I have not been enthused by Quarks build quality but damn if that mini 123 wasn't a bright floody som *****! Here was my dilemma....My primary EDC light on the job is my Ra Clicky 170 and I also have a Inova XO3 for my work truck. Well what I'm finding is that when I get called out at night I hold my Ra in my mouth while reading test meters. Not a comfortable proposition really. My bottom lip is a little sore this morning. The Inova is just too big for anything but an overhand hold and searching. So I found myself in need of a slimmer, smaller and lighter flashlight for when I'm testing. I didn't really want to go the headlamp route since I have to wear a hard hat on the job and this would make my brain bucket too heavy IMO. Which brings me back to the Q-mini. It's slimmer, smaller and lighter...bright as all get out too. So with these newer neutral versions has the sloppy threading issues been resolved? How do you all find the beam profile of the mini neutrals? I'm hoping for a warm floody beam with a big hotspot.

Surely you can get light-weight head lamps. Checkout the Zebralight offerings. They're not much bigger than the QMiNis.

I have a Neutral from the latest run. The head must be unscrewed just short of half a turn to keep the light off.

And if you are holding it in your mouth anyway isn't it basically same total weight that your neck must support. Actually the strain is potential worse since the torque lever arm will be longer with the light in your mouth meaning it's possible that a relatively lighter light in your mouth produces more strain on your neck than a heavier one attached to your head.

JWRitchie76... if you need a light to hold in your mouth... perhaps the LD01 or Preon I would be good choices? Little light, lots of light.

You can buy a mouth piece for a light, seen some somewhere but cannot recall where, what about one of those ITP head lights surely they cannot weigh that much.

i bought two AAs, a 123 and a Ti 123 from the first neutral white run.

i recently got two CR2s, and another AA mini from the current neutral white run.

none of them have had any problems except for the Ti 123. my Ti has had mode skipping problems since day 1.

i doubt you'll have any problems.

i've been really impressed with the minis.

i can't speak to the thread slop issue because i haven't had that issue with any of my lights.

i just got a mini and I unscrew the head less then 1/10th of a turn and it stays off. Never had any issues with an older quark 123 or the new Maelstrom either. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe the people with the issues are vocal. You just don't go start a post with the title "my mini has no issues". Most only start a post for "I need to unscrew my mini 1/4 of the way and I'm getting carpel tunnel in my wrist because of all the excess twisting".

I believe that nite-ize has a mouth piece for mini mags and they sell them over at going gear. Not sure of the size difference between the MiNi and the mag. Maybe you could mod the mouth piece to fit the MiNi.

You could also check out the lineup of Zebra lights, specifically the H series which can be worn as a headlamp or clipped to a shirt pocket or collar. Very convienent and they would free up your mouth and hands.

You guys are too funny! Maybe I will give a headlamp a try? Another reason to try another light right....as if I needed one.

Hi there, i think the Zebralight H501 (either the neutral or normal version) would suit you, i wear mine for reading in bed without disturbin the missus and i dont even notice the weight of it, there have been times when after i turned it off, i could be walking around without realising that i had a headlamp on my forehead (till someone told me).

hyperloop... I think you and I are living parallel lives! :)

Preon I for mouth holding, perhaps? Little light, lots of light.
yeah, i think an aaa would be easier on the mouth. i would say it depends how long you hold it. i think that an aaa even makes my mouth numb after awhile.

zebralight is a nice choice. you can wear it around your neck and rotate to any direction. that's how i wear it the most unless reading a book.

My Quark MiNi123 neutral tint arrived today and I immediately popped in an AW RCR123 and all I can say is WOW.:party: This is an amazing little (and little is the operative word here!) light. I am extremely happy with this light. My Red Preon I arrived as well and that's sure a fine little light too, but already having a couple of LD01s already, the Preon I isn't quite as exciting for me as the MiNi123 is. The LD01 is a tough light to beat. The MiNi123 neutral, on the other hand, certainly is different than all of my other 123 lights and I really love it.

Very fun day at the DHart household today!
