Anyone know anything about these? I just got one for $20 on clearance at Target and it originally sold for $30. They only had 2 on the shelf, one had a Lux in it and the other (the one I got) has a Cree. Model number is 809-1039-1 on both. It takes 3aaa.

I've spent half an hour searching on the web for any info at all about this light and it's like it doesn't exist. No mention of it on Brinkmann's site or anywhere else. There is a 1 watt LED headlamp, but not a 3 watt.

It has a bright spot that is brighter than my D10 on high with plenty of side spill. There is a little bit of Cree rings in the beam, but not bad. The reflector is smooth. I plan to use Eneloops in it for "regulated" brightness.

Just wondering if anyone had seen these or knew anything about them since I couldn't find any mention of this particular model on the internet, including CPF.

Pretty standard info. Direct drive, resistor driven, etc. Cree model is XR-C IIRC.

They are rather overpriced for such a headlamp, which is probably why you haven't heard much.

For 20 bucks it's not a bad light, but I wouldn't pay any more than that for it. It's got good throw with the large smooth reflector. I smoothed out the beam with Write Right on the lens. One drawback is that it's pretty heavy and bulky compared to my 2 year old River Rock 2aaa headlamp. It's at least 3 times as bright as the RR, which is what I was wanting.

Hello Folks,

First post on CPF here...

I'm rather newb with flashlights, some of the terms etc.

I bought one of these Brinkmann 3W head lamps for $5.48 on clearance at Target. Model # 809-1039-1. I figure its worth keeping either way at that price, but I was curious how do I tell if it has a Cree or a Lux in it? What is the advantage of one over the other one? How is the battery life on this? Anyone done a runtime test on this head lamp?

Thanks in advance,
Uncle Chad

I picked up the Brinkman and returned it pretty quick. The Coleman Max 3aa Cree at Wallyworld for $25.00 is a much nicer headlamp along with new Dorcy 145 lumen Rebel ($25.00). The Brinkman is worth keeping around if you can find it for $6.00. The Rebel Dorcy has replaced my EOS as my GOTO headlamp!
