I'm sure we've all seen this little light, it looks like a M*g LED 2D light, except $15 cheaper. Since I can't find a review of it, nor a picture of it on Brinkmann's website, I will post one. I will take some shots of the light and beamshots tomorrow.

The light sells for $20 at Wal-Mart and is nearly identical to the M*g 3W LED light it is copying with one difference, it's not an adjustable beam. It's is throw only.

The light is lightweight aluminum, will probably dent from a decent fall, and had what appears to be a plastic lens. I can't tell what kind of LED is in it, as the reflector is in the head of the light very tight, I didn't want to break my $20 immediately :p When the 2D cells are inserted they tend to rattle just a tad, a little padding on the sides will take care of that problem. It balances well in the hand when holding it and the side-clicky is a little stiff. Push for on/off, momentary press, just like the M*g.
The beam is a nice bright white, running on 2 Energizer Max D cells. Fresh out of the pack. Up close when I get pics up, you will see very noticeable rings in the beamshot, kinda distracting up close. But move that spot out further and they go away completely, as does the darkness :D
This light will throw, I think it will actually outdo the M*g LED. Just toying around outside, there is a field behind my house that is a good 75 yards across to some trees. It will light up the trees on the other side. I will try to get some pics of that, but it will be difficult.

I am really rather surprised at this light. I think it is well worth the $20, even if it does turn into a project host. :grin2: I will try to get some pics up tomorrow.

This is the only link to a picture of the light that I can find anywhere on the 'net.

Wow, 50 views and no opinions? No one else has bought one?

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

Havent' seen them at my wal-mart, no..

Wonder how worthy it is of a LED swap..

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

With the ligthweight aluminum it's using, nit sure how good the heat dissipation will be, but it's a good light as it is. I will get pictures up tonight, maybe try to figure out how to get to the emitter.

Working on those pics now...

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

This light has a lot better heat-sinking than the Mag. The head has a lot of meat and the star is planted well with compound and screws. I tried a Seoul P4 and a Cree but the beam profile was best with the OEM emitter. I settled on a T bin Lux III I had in the junkbox. It is a pretty good deal @ $20.00.

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

I was working on putting the pics up last night, then the server crashed .. again. I'll try to get them up tonight.

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

Ok, let's try this again. Up front, this is no scientific review. It is purely my views of what I see. I used a Sony Cybershot S700 for all pics. I used pre-set settings that showed the best representation of what MY eyes saw at the time. I have put captions on the pics so they are self explanatory. On with the show.

Edit: pics added in a later post.

Bump for people to notice and to say that I wasn't able to produce worthy outdoor beamshots. My Cybershot just doesn't do well picking up light that way. Guess it wasn't meant to take pictures in complete darknesss. But I can tell you that is is one hell of a thrower. It did outperform the MagLED by a large margin.

Somebody post if they can see these, I can but I posted them so it doesn't mean much..

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

AC,

I'm unable to see them.

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

Figured as much, they didn't look like standard URLs for photos..

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

Strange, I can see them on my laptop, but not on main desktop machine. Ill see about putting them up with imageshack or something.

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

If you want to get rid of most of the rings- spray the reflector with hair spray..or any other clear spray . I believe you can undo the hair spray.

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

The thing is the ring isn't noticable at all past 10 feet. I wish my camera would do the long distance beamshots I tried to get. Guess the CCD in it just isn't up to the task of taking in light from total darkness and show what's in front of it :mecry: Oh and the hairspray thing, was wondering about if that would help on my P2D, just to even it out a little. And how would I remove it?

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

Ok. Well I guess I won't attempt to help out anymore, seeing as the only replys I got were "can't see the pics" and "now I see them". If a mod would be so kind as to remove the apparently useless piece of junk thread, I suppose the rest of the CPF family would be much appreciated.

Re: Brinkmann 3W LED 2D Cell - Mini-Review

Don't remove it! I think the thread is good..

Phaetos, you're probably not getting a lot of interest in this thread because it doesn't say "Seoul P4" or "Cree Q5" in the title. Most people are more interested in those lights right now, at least around here. Most flashaholics are more interested in EDC lights that are smaller, although I bet if a survey team checked out their houses and cars I bet you'd find more C and D sized lights than you'd think..

Know what's in the cars at my house?? D-cell Maglites with LEDs in them. If I were putting flashlights in the cars today, they'd be these Brinkmann lights.

And heck, even if nothing else, it looks like the stock LED is a Luxeon III - I bet you could swap a Seoul star in the no problem!!
