Has anyone modded one of these? The led in this light is horrible, any ideas out there? I am new to modding but I definatly want to try it out.

Hmmmm....I guess no one else has one of these? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

I've got one, just a cheap LED, but since it has no metal, it would be hard to mod it with a high output LED because you couldn't heat sink it.

I had one I bought from wally world had to return it because it's sealed can;t really open it without breaking the plastic head/body /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Unscrew the bezel... remove the rubber ring by pulling it straight off the bezel(might take some twisting). Under the rubber ring there will be two yellow? stickers... lift those up and you will find little tabs.. Push those both in and the module should lift up and out of the light. You will need to unsolder the module from the battery contacts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think I remember this correctly.

Negeltu,
That is it! I was messing around with it last night and took it apart. Now to figure out how and with what Led I want to use to mod this light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

I did notice that it seems to be on there pretty well, must be patient. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Hehe... Yeah it's on there pretty well. If you put a different 5mm in place of the old one... you will most likely have to widen the hole just a tiny teeny bit. I put a brighter 5mm in mine without widening it...and couldn't get the darn thing back out... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif It got stuck in the hole. With all the messing around I did I managed to pop off some of the tracing on the pcb... So I just took the whole board out...got a 1 watt luxeon star and put it in there with an nx-05 collimating optic... and run the whole thing on Lithium AA's. Very nice for my purposes.

Good luck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is that a DD with the 1 watt and do you have any pics?

I replaced the LED and dropped the 3.5K resistor down to a 2.5K to get some more brightness. Also I removed the lense from one unit so I could get a better flood. A mag lense is the same diameter as the counterbore in the front bezel ring so I epoxied it in place to keep junk from falling inside and rattling around.

Almost all Brinkmanns use the same basic circuit. The AAA metal light dorked the values up so the light was horrible. I restored it to the same specs (R and C) as the AA and it got better. Then I popped in a new LED and the light dimmed (not as good spec LED as what was there).

The hardest thing is figruing out how some of the plastic units come apart. And waiting for the batteries to drain out to dead.

It is dd on 2 AA lithium energizers. I'll take some pics for ya tonight. It is MUCH MUCH brighter than that little 5mm led.... AND you can use the filters that came with the Rebel. On my DMM I measure on fresh AA Lithiums a bit over 320mA. This will drop rather quickly, but will not be noticeable to your eye. I had that emitter in a brinkman legend, but the switch had intermittent problems and I got tired of the flickering. Even after I took the switch apart and cleaned it....it still flickered. I decided I'd try it in the rebel...and I am very pleased with it. I like it's clicky switch more. No more flickering.

Thanks Negeltu, I will be interested in seeing this.

PJS,
By looking at some of the work Milky has done I am sure this will be interesting. Did he say what he was going use in it?
