Looking at possibly picking this up for back up duty use...currently use preon ii but would prefer momentary on capability in default high mode for use with handgun...have stylus pro with c4 but not bright enough for my needs...anyone have epli? What do you think of it? Is there a better aaa choice that meets my criteria?

If you are looking for a tactical light to use with a firearm, I have to say that EPLI is not a good choice.

For one thing, you want a secure grip. Something as thin as EPLI just doesn't work very well for both Rogers or Harris.

EPLI also does NOT have momentary activation.

There is also the mode-switching consideration. For a tactical light, you want the light to be predictable, meaning that you don't want it to change output mode every time you turn it on. EPLI uses the same activation switch to switch outputs, meaning that it will cycle modes every time you activate and deactivate it.

I suggest you look for another light. I carry a Quark X AA Tactical as one of my backups. While it's not as slim as EPLI, the fact that it has a momentary switch and requires me to explicitly toggle modes means that it is a true tactical light.

Some reviews have indicated it had momentary switch...go figure...so you have one of these? I can live with the thinness as a back up light...as I already carry quark 123 2 x as my duty light I use penlight as back up and when off duty in more formal, I.e. stuck in court, dress...but if it has no momentary on, is just as well stick with preon ii...thanx for reply

Actually, I just found out that it does indeed have momentary activation.

But, still, the fact that it cycles modes using the same activation switch means that it's unpredictable for proper tactical usage.

Any suggestions on a light in the same form factor...find penlight in suit coat pocket best, don't want to wear full bat belt in suit...that has momentary on and is at least 100 linen?

EagleTac PN20A2 with XP-E R3.

2xAAA. Forward clicky. Mode switching by twisting the head (tightened for max, loosened for low). 100 ANSI lumens.

I'm not saying that a thin 2xAAA light is suitable as a tactical light, but the fact that PN20A2's output stays consistent makes it much better-suited for tactical situations than EPLI.

Pn20a2 could be what I'm looking for...high and low modes, forward clicky. Price looks good, too...about $40. I should point out that the primary use would not be tactical, but as a carry light in a suit...preon 2 serves that function now, but, since I only wear a suit when required by my dept. I also carry a firearm, thus wanting a penlight that can be pressed into service in a tactical role if needed.

My first duty light was surefire 6p, but found myself using it for non-tactical tasks more than tactical, which became expensive...eventually switched to quark for better runtimes output and multi-modes...but still obtained stylus pro for quick, utility lighting needs.

I'll check out the eagletac to fill the role of utility/tactical suit and tie light...thanks for the input.
