I'm looking for a 1x18650 that does Hi/Med/Low modes and a forward clicky. Under $40 if possible. Does such a light exist?

I found a bunch of AA roundups but nothing for 18650 cells. Anything decent from DX that fills my requirements?

You can choose between 1,3 or 5 modes. The 3 mode drop-in has hi,med,low and no strobes. If you want HAIII than you have to look for the Solarforce L2P, but this body will break your 40$ barrier with a 3 mode. Look on Ebay for L2P, I have seen one for just under 40 $, but only single mode drop-in included.
 
DX #33549 has everything but the forward clicky (actually I've never been clear as to exactly what the forward clicky is so check it out).

It's one 18650 Cree XP-G 5 mode (high,medium,low and the usual strobes).

It's $22.

Thanks for info. I also noticed there's an upgrade charge for a forward clicky and a SS bezel.

No mention of impact or water resistance for the SF lights though. I like the Eagletac light, but it's only 2 modes which knocks it out of the running.

Forward clicky means that you don't have to click the button all the way to activate the light. It's a momentary switch until clicked. Basically, the complete opposite of your standard reverse clicky.

I'd like to avoid the strobe/SOS modes though.

I can't understand why anyone would want a forward clicky on a multimode light. Makes mode switching much more of a pain as you actually have to turn the light off.

A forward clicky is one that lights up before the switch latches, so a half-press causes the light to come on. Useful for singalling if you have to use Morse code or something.

A reverse clicky does not light up till the switch latches so you get momentary off instead of momentary on. This is handy for mode switching. Very unhandy for signalling.

My Lumapower ConneXion X2 came with a forward clicky and it's great. Just set the mode before you fully click the light. I also normally only keep the light on for a few seconds at a time anyways. Memory on this light sets after 1 second.

Not so on my Lumapower Incendio (my favorite carry) as I can cycle through the 3 modes by doing half presses and the real beauty of this light is I can lock it into 1 mode and have it be a tactical light.

But back on topic, I'm also searching for the right 18650 light and am leaning heavily toward the solarforce L2M...but I'm a bit confused with the different solarforce drop in options (.8-4.2v compared to 4.2-8.4v) and I can't seem to find a source that details all the battery options that work with each dropin. I want the 3 mode and I think that:

.8-4.2 will take 1xCR123, 1xRCR123, 1x18650
and
4.2-8.4 will take 1xRCR123, 2xRCR123, 1x18650, 2x18650...but is this dropin being pushed properly on either 1xRCR123 or 1x18650?

I don't know if my understanding is close to correct or just way off...that's my holdup.

Your Incendio is likely the same as my ConneXion x2.
 
The Romisen RC-M4 also has the problem that some 18650 don't fit in the body, as it is designed for CR123's, I even asked Bryan (SB) what 18650's would fit. He couldn't give me a definite answer. BTW does someone own the Trustfire 2400 mAh and the Romisen RC-M4? Do they fit?
 
I got an SF L2 (1 mode) for 38.99$ with 18650 battery, charger, case, R2 drop-in...the 5 mode is 44.99$ I think..pretty damned bright light for the price..just as bright as my buddy's Fenix Ta20 and has a better (whiter) colour tint..highly recommended..

On Ebay, you can get a Solarforce L2 body with tactical head for a 18650 cell, for £9-51 ... You can then buy a Solarforce R2 Cree 3-mode drop-in (0.8V to 4.2V) ... It says that it is 300 lumens on max which runs for 3.5 hours ... Medium is 40% (120 lumens) and runs for 10 hours ... Low is 10% (30 lumens) and runs for 35 hours ... Price is £8-38.

So you can have a great torch for £17-89.

I have two Solarforce L2 (5 mode) that use 18650 also a L2i (single mode) which is converted to use a 18650 ... I am thinking of getting a 3-mode drop-in to convert the L2i which is at present a single mode.

If you don't like the tactical head, the bodies are available slightly cheaper without one.

Solarforce are without doubt the best of the cheaper torches and are nicely made.

ITP C6t.....i get about 3.26 hours of runtime
and its able to take 2 16340's or one 18650. If you check around you might be able to find one at that price. Found a site that seems to have them at a good deal, and believe me when i say it i payed more then that when they first came out.

On the Solarforce website it lists the low mode on the 3-mode drop-in as being 5% which I'd rather have over the 10% one. I can also order the parts from ITC's website which is a bunch cheaper than Jake's site.
