I have a Zebra but looking for a couple budget $ 20-30 (walmart/ homedepot) headlamps for the kids.
AA battery's, led
Something that would be Candlepower worthy.

Thanks,
Mike

Your are almost out of luck on the AA based LED headlamps in that price range at the local stores almost all of them are AAA based although I think there is a clip lamp by eveready that uses 1AA for around $25? I am still waiting for a 2AA LED headlamp that isn't disposable for under $30 with the batteries on the front (one piece design)

I see.....is there a AAA light that stands out from the selection at a local store ?

If you're interested I have 3 or 4 of these That I would sell for $15 each plus whatever shipping costs. They're several years old, but were only lightly used by my kids. They are a pretty tight spot with excellent throw, but not much spill. A little DC fix could straighten that out though, if you were so inclined. They actually have a lifetime warranty too.

I second the Icon Irix II suggestion, plus Fenix HL20 and Rayovac Sporsman Extreme: all of those headlamps are 1xAA, plenty bright, multi-level, lightweight and cheap.

Petzl Tikkina or Black Diamond Gizmo are good options in this price range.

X2......

The Petzl is kid proof

Stay away from the Icon. Kids tend to blast flashlights on high and you will be spending time replacing batteries on the Icon

Have you made a decision yet? I've seen many variations of the Energizer headlight at Target, Wally world, and Meijer for under $20.

PT EOS or a Fenix HL21/20 are in the lower 30's and are both great headlamps in their price range. The HL21 (older is the 20) runs on 1XAA and is one of my prefered lights. I think it should get better press around these parts.

I missed that post.... but in all honesty in local stores there isn't any AAA headlamps that stand out IMO.

...the OP could get the EOS. The headlamp is very good. Regulated, reasonable low mode and a great mix of flood and throw.

I think the OP is looking for headlamps for kids. The Eos is a good headlamp, but I don't think it's suited for young children. I don't know what age range the OP is buying for, but if it's 10 and below, the Eos could be a bit large and cumbersome for them.

I agree, plus runtime on high is not going to last long.......kids are battery hogs

Op has been suggested with at least three models that meet the requirements. Which of those has been evaluated so far?
