Budget lights for shotgun mounting

Hi,

Does anyone know of a "budget" LED (up to $50) that will withstand the recoil of a 12ga shotgun if properly mounted?

I suppose a Solarforce L2 would given a sturdy enough module. Generally one with a good spring on the end of the module should hold up fine. And if it doesn't well you can always replace it.

What shotgun are you mounting a light on?

I have killed one P60 dropin in my L2 mounted to a shotgun. I think the flexible rubber mount from DX is the way to go, to absorb some shock, and mount the light well back from the muzzle as there's less whip and flip going on..

At least you can carry a spare dropin in a film canister if you kill one - less than $10 from DX.

I hope you're doing this just fer grins, and not for home defense. Defending yourself, your family and your home is pretty serious business, not a good place to save a few bucks.

For a flashlight body, I wouldn't go any cheaper than Solarforce. But the real weak point is, as already pointed out, the P60 drop-ins. FOr just messin' around, any will do, just don't expect them to take a lotta usage. For "serious" duty, I'd go with something solid and fully-potted, like a Malkoff.

I called up Surefire for a similar problem (bought a Surefire M951 body and needed a LED head for it that could stand up to the recoil of my Saiga 12, 12-gauge shotgun); and they said the Surefire KX4 LED head I was lookign at would work.

Since I believe the Surefire 6P LED uses the same 120-lumen KX4 LED head, that looks like the cheapest route I would ever go for a weapon mounted light.
