A buddy is looking for a C cell flashlight. I know Lumapower has the Mentor MT-01/2/3 series. Apart from Lumapower, what other LED based options does he have? 1 or 2 C cell lights. Thanks in advance.

Streamlight makes a three C cell light, the TwinTask 3C. Moderately powered main beam surrounded by 6 five millimeter LEDs. The main beam is on the cool side but not objectionable. The 5MM LEDs are blue tinted similar to the SureFire A2 Aviator incan. This light is direct drive and offers very good run times making it a decent survival / short to medium range SAR light. The main beam is what I would consider as medium range throw with a lot of side spill. You can run three or six of the perimeter LEDs (Not much difference in output) and they are short range medium area flood. The switch is not my favorite as you must cycle through all of the modes (3 LED, 6 LED, Main LED, OFF) but.....Ideal for situations where you will be leaving the light on in one mode for an extended period of time, such as during a power failure. The light is very reasonably priced and feels solid and well constructed. Price includes a nice Ripoffs holster. Although it exceeds your two cell limit it might be worth a look. Streamlight includes a run time graph and chart on the web page for this light.

Lowes still sells the Task Force 3W LED flashlight for $23ish, but the packaging now says "Utilitech" even though the website still says "Task Force".

This light earned a great reputation when it came out a couple years ago as a budget thrower. I don't really know how it compares to more recent lights.

Maglite has new LED C lights called ML100

It comes with user programmable function sets

Hi/Low/Strobe/SOS/Momentary On functions

Theres a nice one very inexpensive at home depot also maybe $25 runs on 2 C cells I believe, cant think of the maker but it isnt Maglite, maybe Rayovac? Its all rubberized looks very tough and has a tailcap tactical style switch

I think purelite may be thinking about the Rayovac 3C Indestructible. It has 145 lumens and is apparently unregulated. At least they don't advertise regulation and that's usually a giveaway. I have no experience with it, but I'm currently running a torture test on the 2AA Indestuctible, and it's pretty damn tough for a cheapy.

if it doesn't have to be an LED light BrightStar makes a good 3 C light called the Responder. Well made and very durable.

Streamlight Pro-polymer makes is a nice 3 C light that can use either Xenon, Luxeon, or 10 LED (floody) modules. I have one and with the Xenon is an excellent thrower, but switch to the 10 LED module and it turns into a long lasting floody work light.
