I'm late to the party and it looks like the recent LOP and MOP group buys are sold out. Is there a way to mod the stock M*g reflector to add a little texture?

Little dabs of clear nail polish.
The bigger the dabs, the rougher the "peel" texture.
Try on an older reflector 1st to see the difference.
Good luck.

Or you can use clear acrylic spray paint. Still attempt it on an old reflector first.

I admit I was reluctant to try it so I bought two 3DMAGs from a member that had 'sputtered' the reflectors. The difference is really amazing.

I use Krylon clear. Don't shake the can too much before you apply it. Apply it in very short bursts, so that it doesn't coat evenly. Also make sure to let it dry a few minutes between coats. If you spray to much while it's wet, the paint kind of flows together and gets smooth which is what you don't want.

If you need mag reflectors, go to www.flashlightking.com and order a few of them. Just be aware that applying texturing takes away from the performance. If you're worried about raw performance, leave it alone. If you're worried about hunting white walls and comparing the "beauty" of beams, then go for the texturing.

I probably still do maybe a half dozen or so mag mods a month. Hunters, firemen, probation officers, etc. They all opt to forego the texturing in favor of maximum performance.

Another alternative might be to contact flashlightlens.com and see if they have any lenses for mags with the light diffusing film on it (LDF). It'll probably do the same thing and you can just change the lens when you want a bit more performance. I've also heard of some applying Write Right screen protectors to their lens to smooth the beam out.

Or scotch tape on the lens. Also would these tips work for high heat from a hot wire mod?

How about that stippling that I've seen on a few m*g mods where people used glow powder. Seems like the heat creates gas that damages the reflector to cause the LOP or MOP. Work well and the glow loox kewl. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On my favorite Mag hotwire mod, the Borofloat lens will cause very painful thermal burns after 5 minutes of runtime if you press your finger to it, imagine what'll happen to scotch tape or plastic reflectors...

NOT recommended /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Experiment with aluminum foil. I have had some interesting results. And it is very easy to remove.

Actually I've been considering aluminum foil.
