Heylo :>

Glad I got pretty much the right light for my purpose. 3W Luxeon is pretty much good for most of my uses.

Anyways. (this has the 3W luxeon, not the Seoul P4) I sent my first ordered Carribean (since I can't spell that right I'll refer to it as C...) in because the head and body threads were not in spec. Say you have a 10mm threaded hole in a engine block, for example. Someone gives you a 9.8mm bolt to go in there. The result on mine? Occasional flickering and unreliable startup. Happened to peer inside the beautiful lens of the replacement I got. Well, hey...

what's this blob on the Luxeon lens? Kinda like a knot on a board of wood. Stands out.

Doesn't mess up the beam that much, it's out of the hotspot. But it makes you wonder...is Homer Simpson running QC over at Peak?

Also. I used the RCR-123a models at batterystation.com for my daily beaters. Seem to be holding up fine, except the battery outer casing doesn't take much abuse

. I ran it straight until it shut off (gets mighty hot) and it ran for about 45min. I know that the batteries shutdown at 2.00volts for self-protection.

So how about yours?

I think not all models support R123 Cells natively. if the light gets hot beyond touch, you are entering in dangerous teritory, possibly causing permenant damage to LED.

I have also had qc problems with some of their lights. They have been flexible and kind in trying to remedy, as long as you don't leave phone messages. I am guessing they are a very small operation, which is in some ways positive, of course. I like my Caribbean very much and Robin supplied the momentary clickie for it, which is pretty cool.

I was aware of that :p

Didn't get past untouchable.

I'd probably be willing to part with mine, in mint condition and with the cool optional momentary clicky. It has a perfect TWOJ star and is blazingly bright. If anyone is interested PM me.

My SS Caribbean isn't doing that good; it flickers from normal brightness to what looks a 'brighter' moon mode and stays that way for some time (hours to days) and flickers back to normal power. It happens regularly.

I had it for just over one year and was fine until about a month ago.

Quite disappointed; one would not expect such a fine expensive tool to go like this:(

The battery I'm using is primary CR123A or rechargeable 3.0v Li-ion 800mAh, not 3.6v so it's even stranger.

Still waiting for Peak LED on advise on what to do??? hoping that it can be repaired/replaced.They haven't replied yet.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts with electornic contact cleaning solution? Cleaning and relubing the threads?

dpcheng07-24-2007 08:24 AMRe: Carribeans: how are yours doing?

Not just cleaning and re-lubricating the threads, I tried another SS body and tail cap, the symptoms remained.

I checked the current drain and only measured <0.1A when this happened; when it returned to normal, the current drain was 1.1A. This indicates something's wrong with the electronics or internal connections inside the head:confused:

Only choice is to call Peak and they will probably tell you to send it back to them. I am doing that with a defective 3-LED Matterhorn head which went dim and draws little current.
