I was wondering how you all carry extra batteries for your flashlights and other battery operated devices?
Might sound like a stupid question, but most if not all of us have had a flashlight or other battery operated device fail - with no extra batteries around.
I have found a copuple of ways to carry extra batteried for some things:
For my 2AA Mini-Maglite, I have a belt pouch that is twice as wide as the usually Min-Maglite pouch - with a vertical divider. The Mini-Maglite goes in one side and a plastic tube containing a set of extra batteries and a foam plug with an extra bulb on the other side. I think I got it from Brigade Quartermaster years ago. Handy.
When camping/travelling I carry a complement of extra batteries and flashlight bulbs in a small (6X8") plastic compartmented box. It will hold 4 D cells, several AA, and AAA celles, a set of 123 Lithiums, a couple of N cells and an assortment of bulbs. But it is too large to carry daily.
One thing that I have done is to try to standardize my lights and devices as much as possible to AA or AAA cells (and now 123 Lithium) as they are smaller and lighter than C or D cells so you can carry more if you need too. I avoid devices using C cells as much as I can. And everything that uses 9 volt batteries is at home.
I carry one set of AA and one set of AAA in my brief case in their original packaging.
I am trying to find good ways to carry at least one set of AA/AAA on my person - most times. Any ideas?
I do use some rechargeable batteries - but you still gotta have extras around.
