Cycling Plus Magazine Review
Were the first to properly test this brand spanking new offering from Cateye and its reverse lens technology lighting out on the roads. The single LED is placed at the front of the light pointing backwards to a lens, which then focuses the light and aims it forwards. This results in almost all of the available light from the LED to be used rather than spill or spread in unwanted directions. Powered with its own 4.8v Lithium Ion battery pack and coming complete with dedicated charger, the Single Shot is very bright, but also highly visible thanks to the front lens design. It's a superbly well-made unit with a compact neat alloy body, robust seals and a very smooth switch. The flex tight mounting is excellent and run times from a full charge were exactly one hour in excess of the claimed 2 hours on high, 6 hours on low and 24 on flashing

So there are three possibilities :
  • Integrated Ni-Mh battery (CatEye site)
  • 4.8v Lithium Ion battery pack (Cycling magazine)
  • 4xAAA NiMH as spare parts... (web store info)
Who is telling the truth ?? hell knows

  • New innovative lens technology featuring ROL - Reverse offset lens - to maximise light output
  • Integrated Ni-Mh battery in head unit- no cables
  • Intelligent mode operation
  • Features 2x 1watt LED
  • 15 000+ total candle power light output
  • Run time approx 3+ hours on high beam - 9+ hours on low - 36+ hours on flashing
  • Smart charger included - 4 hour charge time
  • Approx 270 grams weight

Intelligent mode operation - meybe at last they switch from resistors to some drivers :p

This 15 000+ candle power light output looks impressive (1x Luxeon EL530 have only 1500 cd) but how the hell i have to convert it to common values ??

Price - as something "new" they are quite expensive... :broke:
EL600 - 100$
EL610 - 140$

Bicycling magazing has full page adds for these, look like nice beam patterns.
I had a cell phone that ran off a LiIon battery that could be replaced with 3xAAA...maybe these lights are the same.
Bit pricy but they look like great commuter lights.

Szemhazai, please post beam shots after you have got one of these and boosted it to 2x3W cree at 1A.:twothumbs

"1 Watt" LED's are usually Luxeon-class emitters.

That reflector concept is also used in Pelican's Recoil series.

Yes, some replaceable cellular phone style battery would be nice :) Modding, we will se...

I know pelicans - but by looking on those photos, I'm not sure if they go the same way as pelican...

I've just purchased the Single shot plus, and although i havn't been out on the road with it yet, it seems pretty decent. Feels well made and output is great - completely dwarfs my cateye HL-EL135, which in itself is brighter than most people's bike lights!

The batteries are 4x 2700mAh NiMH cells that are replaceable if you unscrew the unit, a bit of a shame they didn't make them easier to replace so you could carry spares.
