I have a Cateye that uses a one 1 watt bulb powered by 2 C's. Can I replace that one bulb with one LED that will output more light? I don't mind if I have to add a battery pack.

Thank you.

If the LED emitter in your CatEye is a Luxeon LED (which it probably is, given it's wattage rating), it'll be a matter of replacing it with an SSC P4.

You'll need to open your light and see whether you need a bare emitter or an emitter mounted on a star. Either way, it'll just be a matter of desoldering the original emitter (or star) and soldering in the new part.

The newer LED will be more efficient, so you'll get more runtime with the same batteries you were using before.

Green LED,

Sorry, I'm new to this kind of discussion. No, it's a bulb, like a little lightbulb - incandescent. The thing I like is that the Cateye has a focusing lens and I assume it will work the same way for whatever light source I put in the same physical space as the bulb. I'm willing to try an LED mod, or at least hear about how much trouble I'm going to get myself into by trying.:grin2:

I appreciate your tips. Maybe one of those would work if I wanted to try to fit it in?

:ohgeez:My bad. I read "1 watt" and defaulted to thinking about a Luxeon LED emitter.

Converting an incan to LED can be problematic, unless you find a LED drop-in that fits your light. The current optic may or may not work with an LED emitter (because of how the lens is designed).

What kind of bulb does your light have? led-replacement.com is a really good source for most any kind of LED drop-ins.

There's a website called led-replacement.com? You're kidding, well of course there would be. Wow, thanks for that. I can't tell you the bulb right now because my wife's out riding with the light. But I'll visit the site and see what's available. When she gets home, I'll go check.

Thanks!
