Certified Genius at work here, Mag switch exploded

OK to keep a long story short I got my HotLips from Howard today “Thank you very much kind Sir” so I set apart for the first time taking the switch out of my older Mag C no problems so far then I just had to take the thing a part to get the lamp pedestal out of it then my hand slipped and parts went every where…….#$%&! Lucky that thing didn’t take an arm off or worse…..

M@g Inds. Was of no help with an exploded view.

Once you get up off the floor and clean up the wet spot do any of you have a pic of how this cotton picking thing goes back together?

I’m good with the – neg contact on the bottom and the anchor screw through it then the I have the + pos post back on their little post front and back of the switch and the little white part back in the top half the one you first see when you take the rubber cover off. Where I’m lost at is the order of the little ink pen type spring the very small brass bushing and washer and the other white plastic piece…….

Without a pic (I am textually-challenged myself!) I am not 100% certain of your assembly order although it sounds like you got it right, but I Can tell you that the pen-type clickie parts will go back in an order similar to any ballpoint pen clickie. Perhaps you have one handy to take apart and follow...or send me everything I will assemble, just can't tell you in words, I'm kinda just a hands-on guy when it comes to that type of stuff (as well as certain types of women!)...

I do have another C but it's the new type with the Logo on the rubber button an it doesn't have the brass retainer ring that you just unscrew to get the whole switch out so I passed on it because I don't know how to that one comes out. Thanks, I found that and even resized the picture but I still can see what I need, heck I don't even know if I found all the parts yet some of them may have flew as far as Charlies place /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Next time I will take it apart over a box instead a work bench already covered in little parts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sway, actually the second C you have is the better one, and easier to work with. No unscrewing of the top retaining ring (there is none, that ring you see is a spring clip tightly wedged inside a machined groove). You simply loosen the switch a couple of turns with an allen wrench (after removing the rubber cover of course) and the whole switch assembly DROPS OUT THE BOTTOM! Much easier to work with.

Picture 1: Mag Switch Completely Broken Down
The parts are as follows:
A: Flat contact spring for battery negative - from body to PR retaining ring collar
B: Retaining screw for entire switch assembly, makes switch body-battery negative contact
C: Lamp base plunger for battery positive - direct to switch core
D: Switch body
E: PR base retaining ring, pedestal/collar and insulator
F: Cam follower bolt for focusing
G: Switch core lower body
H: Battery positive switch contacts
I: Battery positive switch contactor (contact with "H" closes the circuit)
J: Switch core upper body

The switch core with contacts has been assembled but not plugged into the switch core lower part. The PR retainer/pedestal assembly has been assembled but not inserted into the main switch body. I left out the battery negative flat spring because I mangled it screwing around with the bits. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Many thanks to you guys, I tore the house and truck apart last night looking for M@s and came up with 2 C’s and 2 D’s took them apart and none of them were the same switch. I got so aggravated at this thing and myself it took a 12 pack of frosty beverages to get me to sleep. I thought about it at work today, came home put the thing together and it works!

I have no idea of have many variants of M@g switches exist but I a Certified Master Genius on several of them now.

Come to think of it “Certified Genius” may make a good handle for me, what do ya think?
