I'm getting some 2/3AA cells and want to be able to charge them in my Vanson-type smart charger. But I'm wondering if I should charge as a AA, simply using a metal spacer at the negative end to make up the length? That would be a 700mA charge rate, and these cells are only rated at 750mAH. Since these cells are designed for 10-20 amp discharge rates, is it reasonable to assume a 1C charge would be ok?
My other option would be to get it to charge at the AAA rate (350mA). Anyone familiar with how these chargers make the determination? Is it simply via length? The positive contacts look like a contiguous strip of metal, but there's a small dot at each of the AAA,AA,C,D levels that I haven't looked at under magnification yet. Is that part of the charge determination, or maybe where the thermistor gets the heat info?
