Charging Li-ion with parallel charger?

I've modded my DSD with LTC4054 since it's simple (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=57999) and the result is good. I just use one IC and the two slots are still in parallel. I'll do it again with two LTC4054 for independent charging channels. Should be simple, too.

At the meantime, I'm just curious if it's safe to charge one li-ion cell with parallel LTC4054?

For example, if I set each LTC4054 to 750mA and wire both BATT+ of LTC4054 to battery's +ve and also the same with the -ve. Will I get 1.5A charging current or will it be burned out? If I set different charging current with the two LTC4054, is the same result?

I think I'd better started with LTC1733 for higher charging current.

Thanks

Hi there,

This could possibly work ok, but you would be better off going with the higher
current device in the long run. Also, i assume you already know you must
watch the max charge current for an Li-ion cell or it could get killed.

Hi MrAl,

Thanks for the info.

Surely I'll watch the charging current. I charge my cell about 0.5C or below 800mAh (LTC4054). :) I have some LTC4054 left and just wonder how to charge the newly got MOLI IMR27600 cells.

Hi again,

Does the manufacturer list the max charging current? If so, you can
go by that to set the max. I'm assuming they are Li-ion cells too.

Hello,

Moli IMR26700 is lithium manganese oxide (LiMn2O4) type. It's 2900mAh or 3000mAh. I just could find max discharge rate at 20A or more, but didn't find the recommended charging rate. It seems that it could be fast charged, but I think I'll do the normal li-ion charging method. :)

Thanks again.
