Hello CPF,
This is my first post but I have been doing a lot of reading of the older posts. I have recently purchased several flashlights mostly geared toward EDC. I typically use my flashlight 5 -10 minutes a day around the house at night. I have finally settled on my two favorites and plan on selling the others. I have decided to keep the Nitecore D10 SP R2 and a Ra Clicky (custom 170 lumen). I was reading several reviews on the site regarding the Nitecore and decided that I need to try some 14500's due to the increased performance. I ended up ordering a pair of UltraFires 14500 Protected Cells along with an Ultra Fire WF139 Charger. I also ordered some 16340's UltraFire for the Ra that came with a DSD charger. I don't like this charger at all. It caused one of the 16340 to smoke when inserted. Not sure if it was user error or a faulty charger, either way I am returning it. I started reading a little more on the forum and discovered that AW is thought of as a more reliable and safer brand so I decided to replace the Ultrafires. Also a soon as funds become available I plan on getting a Pila ICB charger.
Couple of questions I have.
Is the Pila significantly better than the WF-139? Is it worth the extra funds considering that I am not the heavy of a user and only want the performance increases?
What is the best schedule to recharge the batteries? Should I allow them to fully discharge (they are all protected cells) or is it OK recharge every couple of days regardless of discharge state?

Hello Bmcgators98,

Welcome to CPF.

If I were spending your money, I would spring for the Pila IBC. It is a much better charger.

Li-Ion cells handle frequent charging better than running them all the way down before charging. If you need to use your light and end up running the cell all the way down, it is not the end of the world, but for generals use it is OK to charge frequently.
