Show your old lights with upgrades, I cant be the only one upgrading old lights! Something about these old light that just have a great feel to them.

old lights upgraded on Flickr

First is Ultrafire C3, upgraded to XML L2 T6 4C tint led, I kept original driver Rexlight, it is programmable (2 mode hi/low, 3 mode with memory, or five mode with Blinky modes). AA NIMH. this light has a very nice heft to it! Well built. It is now one if my favorite lights of all time. Nice large hotspot and perfect beam.
Good UI. Easiest mod yet!

Second is Nuwaii Q3 with Qlight driver with 6 chips and Nichia 4000k led (RCR123)
Third is another Nuwaii Q3 with flupic (2006) circuit and XML U2 led (RCR123)
Fouth is Dorcy super 1 watt upgraded with XPG3 neutral tint. (CR123)
Fifth is MR Bulk Chameleon with XML U2. Still one of the best UI ever, IMO. (RCR123 or cr123) unbelievable machining you cant even see the seams where the light joins together!
All have much better outputs on par with today lights!
Don't even get me started on Electrolumens upgraded lights!

Here's my Rayovac Sportsman with a new reflector and an XM-L2 running off of an 26650 and the large glow ring. This thing throws amazing!

Re: Classic Old Lights with Upgrads

I really like that Rayovac.

My only contributions would be two favorites - a retro 6Z & 7Z, both with Malkoff M91 dropins.
(I can get away with nominating them only because this thread is in the LED Flashlights subforum, not the Custom/Modified subforum. :))

Edit: And any of the very old 'sealed' SF's that have modern (& custom) updates are always a win.

That KL6 is sweet with that 2X18650 tube.

Originally shared these on the 'where'd the old-timers go thread' -

A couple of old-soldiers upgraded.

Nuwai's old cool Luxeon Star replaced with a neutral Cree XM-L and perfectly capable of running 16340's w/original driver for an estimated 400 lumens.

Dorcy's incan converted to LED with neutral/warm (4000k) XP-G3 driven up to 3000mA on 16650's; love that buttery switch. As a finishing touch, it uses a ramping UI.

Love that well worn Mr. Bulk. I think bare metal lights looks so good when they're a little "skun-up". Haha

In the Candle Power tradition a 1960's 2c house light (ie generic from local mom and pop gas stations or hardware stores) was "hot wired" for more impact using a pair of LifePo4 batteries with adapter sleeve and a 4 cell Maglite krypton bulb. Looks to be about 150 lumens now instead of the 5 or 6 before.

Another one is a module member Lightknot had done up for the Pentagon X3 to turbo an approximately 105 lumen output to over 700. Total seven were made. I own two.

Heat sync aids heat disipation through the body of the light.

One folks said could not be done was a Malkoff M60T in a Pentagon. This case is was the eX2. A spring stretch brought it to life.

Old hand applied serial number label shows patent was still pending.

It is! I have another one just like it that I need to mod and sell. That one is my Wife's and she won't let it out of her site. I always joke with her that I am going to sell it.

Re: Classic Old Lights with Upgrads

Didn't know gene made a M60T. Cool

I don't know for certain it was called a "T", but if I recall correct the M60 had two distinct beams to pick from. One had an F monicker and was stated to be a 65 degree(?) beam while the other one a 17(?) degree beam. The one I own is the 17 type. ie a thrower.

Hello Nitroz, Do you have any build pictures and places that you sourced parts to build that Sportsman? Driver? It is very cool.
