I've been working on a dive light, and the original plan was to use the Luminus SST-90. Picked up a prototype to help me work out the electrical characteristics, then picked up a surface mount device to go on one of BriteLumens' heat sinks. That's when things started to go wrong for me.

I managed to pop the lens off the SST-90 accidentally while trying to fit it into the heat sink. Shortly after that, it stopped working altogether.

I immediately ordered a replacement SURFACE MOUNT SST-90. A week later, a SSR-90 (on a star board) shows up. I contact avnet and a week later, ANOTHER SSR-90 shows up. I contact avnet again and also Luminus. I was told they'd take care of it, but I haven't heard from either since. That was about two weeks ago.

I've since put together a light using the P7 which is plenty adequate. I still have the SSR-90s that they sent me, and am thinking about making some video lights with them. In the mean time, I have a light that works pretty well, and a distaste for doing business with avnet and luminus.. :thumbsdow

Hi naimis! Are you in the USA? Sorry to hear of your bad time. What bin devices did you get? Are they cool white? Cheers, Jeff

Yep, I'm in the US. What I'd ordered was SST-90-W57S-F11-GN200, which is, IIRC, 5700K. Slightly reddish. I tried to balance between color temp and output.

Just take the board off. A search here on reflow soldering will bring up plenty of information. Most of the info will probably be on the XR-E but its the same concept.
