CMG Reactor doesn\'t seem any brighter w/lithiums?

I've recently purchased a CMG Reactor and was doing some comparisons with alkalines and lithiums. For some reason my Reactor doesn't seem any brighter with the lithiums compared to standard alkalines. Why is this?

I did some in house testing in the basement at night as well as some testing in the woods. I couldn't really tell the difference between the 2 battery types. And all the batteries were from brand new packages.

I must say the light is above my expectations as far as brightness. I think it's the light I've been looking for. I haven't let the light run for very long with either set of batteries though. This is all initial brightness in the first 30 seconds to a minute. Do you think there's something wrong? Should I send it back for another one? Thanks,

I have one luxeon star that shows almost no brightness improvement on lithiums, one that shows about a 50% increase in brightness, and one that shows 100%+ increase in brightness. Luxeon stars are all different.

At the very least, you should notice the difference is in runtimes and brightness over time when using the lithiums as opposed to alkalines. Lithiums seem to have a much more linear discharge with LSs.

Herd_bull,

I don't notice any brightness difference in my Reactor either. I got it for the runtime and this is where it really takes advantage of Lithium AAs.

If I need brighter, along with shorter runtime,
I have my Arc LSes.

The Reactor is optimized for runtime, rather than brightness.

My Reactor was also the same way. What really DID make a difference, however, is when I replaced the 2 AA batteries with the 2 N's and 1 AAA combination. This has been my favorite light of choice for scrummaging through boxes and drawers in the basement ever since.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Doug,

I can hardly think of any product that I've ever bought in any category, that displays such extreme variation of quality and chacteristics as these Luxeons,

Even if surmounting this problem is a serious technical challenge I'm convinced that greater competition within the industry would result in much faster improvement.

It sure is frustrating.

I agree completely - between the voltage differences and the color tints, it's very annoying.... Over time it should improve - remember this technology is still in it's infancy.

Hey! 998 posts! 2 more to go and I hit the 1K mark!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">But don't you lose a lot of runtime?
