has anybody taken apart a CMG reactor 3 , i use one on my bike and it is a bit intermittent - i was thinking of taking apart and cleaning and resiting the lens etc... ( like winter maintenance /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

can it be taken apart ( without too much damage /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif )

The Reactor is not meant to be disassembled. Ever.

That being said, it may be possible to disassemble one without damage, but I've never heard anything about such an attempt yet.

The head seems to feature 2 halves made from polycarbonate, a steel ring in front, and polycarbonate ring in the rear.

If you could disengage the lower ring, perhaps you could separate the halves enough to remove the head.

I've taken one apart, but in the end it involved a hammer! :-) Seriously, after I was done it didn't go back together. I didn't mind so much and used the LED and optics in another project. If you do a search, you might turn something up WAY back when it first came out. I recall someone detailed how it was put together with some detail. Of course, I could just have a faulty memory too.

I've read of others taking them apart, but never of them being put back together.

I understand that the contact is a piece of spring steel wire that makes contact in a metal groove. If the wire doesn't maintain its spring or if the wire or groove oxidize or corrode, that causes the intermittant problem or failure.

They have a lifetime warranty. Take advantage of it and send it back for a replacement.
