Hey guys I have a Coleman model 288A700 lantern. I am not able to get the lanter to light. I have replaced the generator and the rubber seal around the pump is in good condition . There is nothing left that I can take apart or look at that I can see. I have taken it to the Coleman outlet and they say they don't know what it is. The pump does work because when I pump it and turn it on fuel comes out. I did get it to light once but it was only for a brief second. I have not been able to get it to light since. I appreciate any help and information given beforehand.

I don't have your lantern, but remember the basics of fuel combustion:

1. Fuel flow (sounds like you've got at least some of that.)
2. Proper mix of air versus fuel. Not enough air? Not enough fuel? Something is partially clogged?
3. Ignition source.

I'm suspecting #2. Sorry if I can't be of more help to you. :(

To the OP, some of these pick-up tubes were known to be bad. It's a plastic laminated piece and the two parts will separate.

What are the chances the tank if full of dirty fuel?

And, dirt dobbers and spiders are notorious for making nests in the air tubes of lanterns. I've even had a hard time getting them cleared with compressed air. Best bet is a wire coat hanger and a good flashlight. Be sure you can see that the tube is clear.

Chances are you'll end up ruining the mantels, so just do this . Give the burner assembly a soak in a sink full of hot soapy water. This will break down dirt dobber nests. And run water through the air tubes to flush out any spiders and such.
