Compact 18650 clicky with half way press light

Hi all,

I'm in need for a new flashlight and have quite a good idea of it's characteristics... would really appreciate some recommendations for further investigation, Thanks

1. 1x18650
2. As small as possible
3. Head, body and tail should be as similar as possible in width
4. high/medium/low setting with highest being around 400 lumens or more, no need for strobe/sos
5. click switch (position not important) should light up on half way press.
6. slightly more throw than flood

ThruNite TN12 with the clip removed has a fairly uniform head/body/tailcap diameter. It's pretty small for a 1x18650 light, has forward clicky for momentary activation with head twisty UI, and with excellent output for its size and weight. The max output is roughly the equivalent to that of Scorpion V2 and TN11. It does have a strobe, but makes up for it for having a moonlight mode. Throw is decent for its size while having a large spot.

Seems like you are looking for a forward clickie light. Throw and beam width depends on the size of the reflector and the size of the emitting area, but to get 400 lumen out the front, you'll need a Cree XM-L, or a overdriven XP-G (I don't think anyone does that). The XM-L has a larger die size, so it will not throw very well with a small reflector, How much throw do you want?

Shiningbeam's S-mini could work, but if he is driving the emitter at 1A on high, it won't be 400 lumen out the front. Jetbeam's Jet III could be another option (2 user defined modes).
